This chart represents the share of the population living in France according to their country of birth in 2020 and by age group.
It can be observed that waves from Spain, Italy, and Portugal preceded those from the Maghreb and more recently from other countries in Africa and Asia. Indeed, immigrants from Africa, particularly from the Maghreb, represent the largest share of the population living in France between 18 and 49 years old. Spaniards, Italians, and Portuguese represented a larger share among the older populations; among those over 80 years old living in France, *** percent were born in the Iberian Peninsula or Italy.
