Impeachment of South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol - statistics & facts
South Korea is reeling from the aftermath of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s unprecedented declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024 – the first such move since Chun Doo-hwan’s military dictatorship 45 years ago. This declaration sparked nationwide outrage, resulting in mass protests and Yoon's impeachment by the National Assembly just two weeks later. On April 4, 2025, South Korea's Constitutional Court upheld the National Assembly's vote, resulting in Yoon's immediate removal from office. A snap presidential election is now scheduled for June 3, 2025.
