It was in 1988 that the former National Front achieved its first successes in the presidential elections. Then chaired by Jean-Marie Le Pen, the far-right party obtained *** million votes in this election won by the Socialist Party and François Mitterrand. Since then, the Le Pen party has seen its number of votes increase with each new presidential election, except for the 2007 edition where it won *** million votes. In 2002, Jean-Marie Le Pen reached the second round for the first time against Jacques Chirac. The party, chaired since then by Marine Le Pen, reached the second round a second time in 2022, where it recorded more than ***** million votes.
