Few Americans Trust Institutions

Americans have little trust in organizations and institutions. According to a survey conducted by Statista Consumer Insights, distrust is particularly high towards big tech as well as the government - only 8 percent and 12 percent, respectively, of those surveyed said they trusted these two entities.

U.S. respondents are also very critical of financial and educational institutions (20 percent trust in each) as well as religious institutions (21 percent). Even consumer protection agencies, which are designed to champion the rights of everyday Americans, were met with little trust at only 17 percent in the survey in favor of them.

Healthcare providers and the military are viewed more positively. However, only 27-31 percent of survey participants consider them to be trustworthy. A whopping 28 percent of people in United States said they did not trust any of the institutions listed, which also included energy and utility companies as well as media, brands, companies, large retail chains and think tanks - which corresponds to rank 2 in the entire survey.
